Hilux, Navara, L200, D-Max and Ranger compared on payload, durability, parts availability and total cost of ownership for fleet operators.

The shortlist

Fleet buyers in the region choose between five double-cab pickups: Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi L200, Isuzu D-Max and Ford Ranger.

What matters in the field

  1. Parts availability — Hilux and D-Max lead in remote areas.
  2. Payload and towing — Ranger and D-Max post the highest figures.
  3. Fuel economy — the 2.4 GD-6 Hilux and 1.9 D-Max are the frugal choices.
  4. Residual value — Hilux retains value best across Africa and Central Asia.

Our recommendation

For mixed on/off-road fleets with long service intervals between depots, the Hilux 2.4/2.8 remains the safest total-cost-of-ownership choice. For maximum payload on sealed roads, consider the D-Max 3.0.
